The small town of Buzet is situated in Istria, close to the Slovenian border. This ensures that it is a fantastic base for guests in our Croatian apartments wishing to explore both Croatia and Slovenia on their next holiday. Positioned on a hilltop, above a fertile valley, the town was once controlled by the Venetian Empire who constructed several churches and city walls. Enjoy such vistas by relaxing in one of NOVASOL’s villas with pools! The historic core of the city is well worth a visit during your Croatian villa holidays, with the Church of Saint George being a particular highlight.

Buzet is in a stunning location, its elevated position affords the town with fantastic views of the lush, green surroundings. Be tempted by the scene of wild growing trees, shrubs and rolling hills and take yourself on a walk from your NOVASOL accommodation in Istria. If you would like to seek refuge from the warm sun, perhaps take to the forests that line the Mirna River. Here you will find a range of flora and fauna, and it can also be noted that this is a hotspot for discovering wild truffles growing! Croatian villa holidays are made for those who enjoy exploring nature.
Buzet is known as the ‘City of Truffles’ due to its location in the heart of ‘truffle country’. Every year the town hosts Truffle Festivals to celebrate the area’s natural resource. In fact, the truffles are considered to be as good as Italy’s famous Alba Truffles! For those staying in NOVASOL’s direct holiday homes during the second week of September, be sure to partake in the large folk festival which takes place annually. Here a giant omelet is prepared in a huge frying pan using over 2,000 eggs and 10km of truffles! Take some inspiration for a home cooked breakfast in the comfort of your Croatian villas.
Buzet has a long history, which can be traced whilst staying in one of NOVASOL’s cottages with hot tubs. Following Roman rule, the city was also conquered by the Lombards, then by the Byzantines of the Eastern Roman Empire. After the seventh century, the Croats then dominated the region before being expelled by the Franks in the ninth century. It was then in the fifteenth Century that the Venetian Empire took control of the city and constructed many of the town’s monuments. Learn more about the town’s fascinating past during your stay in our Croatian villas.
Buzet is a fantastic base for those wishing to explore picturesque Istria and neighboring Slovenia. Our Istrian villas, in particular, are near to many more well-preserved medieval towns. Visit the city of Hum, which is the smallest city in the world – it is just over 100 yards long, 30 yards wide and home to just 30 people! However, despite its small size there is still plenty to discover. Alternatively, for those looking for an urban flair of a slightly larger town, why not head to our Pula accommodation, which is approximately 1 hour of driving from Buzet? The city is home to an impressive Roman amphitheater, as well as a busy commercial port.
