Piran is a lovely town situated on a peninsula in the southwest of Slovenia's Coast and Karst region. Portoroz, a modern resort with country's largest artificial sandy beach, is situated on the same peninsula. Piran has been here for over seven centuries. It is not seldom that you hear that Piran is the most beautiful town destination in the entire country. The Venetian architecture, especially the main square named after the famous eighteenth century composer, violinist and music theoretician Giuseppe Tartini, will enchant every visitor. The old town Piran is a pedestrian zone, surrounded by partially preserved fortifications system that had been built in three phases due to the spreading of the town. In the sixteenth century it encompassed the entire peninsula.
Half way between Strunjan Saltworks and cape Madona in Piran you will find the little bay of Fiesa, which is popular due to its walkways and nature. It used to be a peaceful bay surrounded by hills and two freshwater lakes. Locals and visitors just adore the green landscape, impressive cliffs and clear sea. There is a lovely promenade leading from Piran to Fiesa that offers panoramic views of the bay all the way to the coast of the neighboring Italy. Fiesa beach is a combination of rocky coast and concrete plateaus. It is beloved by families with children because there you find pine tree canopy shades, playground lawns and pebble shallows. From May to September you can rent a parasol and sun loungers there. There are also canoes, SUP boards and other vessels and fun contents available for rent. Clear sea and interesting underwater world make this area interesting for diving. If you take a couple more steps along the cliffs, you will find a peaceful little patch of beach. The lakes were in a way created after the clay excavations were abandoned. Today they create an interesting biotope at the meeting place of freshwater and saltwater with an incredible fauna and flora diversity. If you are patient, you will be able to see not only fish and birds but also rare insects, like dragonflies.
Due to the fact that old ton of Piran is a car free zone, there are plenty possibilities to park around the town walls. There is public parking available against payment as well as several public garages that can be booked in advance. The town offer very good public transportation possibilities so you can arrive without a car or book your space and park it during your entire stay if you want.
