Cultural riches
Did you know that Karlovac was founded as a fortification against the invasion of Turks in 16th century un the shape of a six point star? The fort, that is the core of town today, was built on the property of nobility Zrinski and the name Karlovac stems from its founder Charles I of Austria (Karl I of Austria). The main square is the home of the Holy Trinity Church and the Franciscan monastery.

One thing you should not miss in Karlovac is the freshwater aquarium that is led by public institute Aquatika. Four rivers that cross Karlovac are Kupa, Mreznica, Korana and Dobra and all their riches can be views in the aquarium.

There are plenty of hiking trails in the area. Kozjaca is one of them. Adrenalin junkies can try paintball with a group of friends. The woodlands around Karlovac are just perfect setting for outdoor action. Summertime offers Days of Beer (Dani piva) with excellent rock concerts.
