The stunning Strossmayer promenade in the Upper Town makes the perfect setting for a romantic stroll in the evening. You can reach the aptly named 'Upper Town' using the speedy funicular, which takes you up to the higher part of the city in just 55 seconds. For those that love anything botanical, then we would suggest a visit to the lovely botanical gardens of Zagreb - home to over 10,000 plant species it is a real oasis in the center of this lively city. In the eastern part of the city you will find the largest park in Zagreb - Maksimir - which also houses a zoo. In the winter, the highest peak of Medvednica, Sljeme, is a popular skiing destination. In fact, Ivica and Janica Kostelic, the most famous Croatian skiers, started their successful careers in Sljeme, diligently practicing on these slopes.
