Artefacts show that Porec has been settled since pre-historic times, and remains from a fortified Roman colony can be seen today. The Basilica of St. Euphrasius is one of the best original examples of early 6th century Byzantine art. The Episcopal buildings and the Basilica in the historic center of the town were collected as evidence late antique and early Byzantine art in the Adriatic area as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Visit the ecclesiastical complex with an atrium, baptistery, bishop's palace and a small chapel from the 6th century.
