Kargow is a small community in the Müritz National Park, which is one of the most important habitats for rare animals and plants due to its huge forest complexes, many small lakes, meadows and moors. The neighbouring village of Federow (4 km) is home to the Müritz National Park Information Centre, where visitors can experience the life of these rare birds of prey via a live camera in an osprey nest. Of the many guided tours of the national park offered here to observe wild animals and birds, those to the crane resting places are particular highlights. Thousands of these lucky birds stop off here in spring and autumn. Visitors can also explore the region themselves using the well-developed network of cycling and hiking trails and by combining bus, boat and bike with the national park ticket. The Havel spring lakes, a popular canoeing area, are also located in the region. In Federow there is a farm with a restaurant and the only radio play church in Germany. Further catering facilities and a wide range of shopping opportunities can be found in the climatic health resort of Waren (Müritz), approx. 7 km away, which can be reached by bus with the Müritz-Rundum-Ticket (included in the spa card).
