The small town of Rheinsberg is a state-recognised resort in the middle of the beautiful Rheinsberg lake district in Brandenburg. The region impresses with its countless lakes, which are connected by canals. An ideal holiday destination, not only for water hikers. Thanks to the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich, who resided in the rococo castle in Rheinsberg in the 18th century, the town became a flourishing cultural centre and inspired Kurt Tucholsky and Theodor Fontane, among others. Today, the castle grounds, which also house a theatre, the Chamber Opera and the Kurt Tucholsky Museum, host the annual Chamber Opera Festival and other musical events. In addition to the picturesque old town with its numerous restaurants and cafés, the town's visitor attractions include passenger boats, boat and bicycle hire and a swimming area on Lake Grienericksee. The Berlin-Copenhagen long-distance cycle route is just 20 kilometres away.
